Allotment #31: Peggy Davis Bright

seekaahkohkwa

Margaret ‘Peggy’ Davis Bright

Born: between 1846-1853  Died: after 1920

Peggy Bright is most likely the daughter of a man known as John Weoxie, who may have been Potawatomi, and a Myaamia woman named Mihšahkatohkwa, born very soon after the removal from Indiana, perhaps as early as 1846 but more likely closer to 1850.  Peggy’s mother later married Jim Davis (e-to-wah-ke-sic).  The records are inconsistent regarding her family, but it is likely she was considered a ward in need of guardianship while still a minor.  She married James Wesley Bright while the Miami Nation still resided in Kansas, and their children were John, Flora, Columbus, Josie, Frankie, and Fredonia.  Frankie and Josie passed away before allotments were made, leaving John, Flora, and Columbus to receive allotments.
